Barn Croft was once an eighteenth century barn but has now been converted into a lovely two-storey detached cottage whilst still retaining a number of its original features in its traditional Cumbrian stonework and oak beams.  
It is set amid farmland in a pleasant, private enclosed garden and nestles below Skiddaw in the hamlet of Applethwaite.

There are splendid views all around but especially southwards towards Derwentwater, the Jaws of Borrowdale, the Coledale and Newlands valleys and Thornthwaite forest.

Keswick is within walking distance and offers a variety of specialist shops, especially for the fell walker, a good range of eating houses, a cinema and the 'Theatre-by-the-Lake'.

Fell-walking is readily available, various watersports are to hand on Derwentwater, alongside the lake ferry service.

There are numerous other activities and places of interest to visit.
It is central to the whole of the Lake District with easy access to Penrith, Ambleside, Windermere and the Solway coast.
Visitors may bring their own boat if they wish to launch it from Portinscale.

Accommodation  

There are two bedrooms, a double and a twin.
From the lounge, which has an open fire, there is a secondary staircase which opens into a second lounge. A double bed-settee is provided here.
The kitchen is well equipped.
The bathroom includes both a bath and a shower.
Visitors are asked to bring bed, kitchen and table linen. Everything else is provided and is included in the weekly rental.
Pets welcome - £12 per animal per week.
