A Farm cottage apartment with a lounge/diner, kitchen, a double and a twin bedroom in a lovely rural area in meadowland with a river running by, and a ruined castle almost in the back garden .No smokers. Holmhead cottage is built with stones taken from Hadrian's Wall. it stands on the foundations remaining and near the most spectacular remains .Lovely open views surround the cottage, which is attached to Holmhead Guest House , but with its own back and front doors and own private walled garden . There is a place to park your car right near the french patio door where there is a sheltered garden table and chairs . the doors open into the sunny lounge dining room with well equiped kitchen to the left. the bathroom has overbath shower . Overlooking the river and the ruined castle are a twin bedded room and a double bedded room both with pine furniture. A gentle stroll down the farm track will bring you to the village which is also set back from the main road with a bypass . Greenhead village has a pub, a cafe, a church and a village hall with activities/talks and film shows . there is a village green with a small riverside park , and a childrens play area .Greenhead also has a golf course and good transport links with busses hourly and extra busses for Hadrian's Wall in the summer. Haltwhistle is 3 miles by bus or car and here are the main shops that you may need , plus an excellent sports centre and open air swimming pool . just step out your back door and you are straight onto the footpaths of the Pennine way and the Hadrian's Wall path a short walk to the east will bring you to the Roman Army Museum and the highest remaining section of the wall . and 3 miles to the west, the spectacular remains of Birdoswald Roman Fort now run by English Heritage .Take a car free day and use the Hadrian's Wall bus to explore other parts of Hadrian's Wall and forts/Museums like Vindolanda and Housesteads.and the Northumberland National Park. Holmhead is also central for longer days out and its easy to reach the town of Hexham and City of Carlisle in 1/2 an hours drive , or the Lake District, Scottish Borders and Pennine (area of outstanding beauty)in 1 hour.Newcastle and the Northumberland Coast plus Durham City, are also within reach for a day out.
