Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Ford Castle is one of the most attractive residential centres in the country, the Castle's history is well documented dating back to 1338 when King Edward III granted permission on the Heron family to "Fortify and Crenellate" Ford Manor House. The Castle was attacked on a number of occasions by the Scots but was finally taken by King James IV in 1513, before his fatal battle at Flodden Field. The Flag Tower holiday accommodation dates from this time and is a 5 storey building including a vaulted room called an "Oubliette Dungeon". The accommodation consists of 1 double room (with king size bed) and ensuite shower room, 1 x 3 bedded room with ensuite shower room. There is separate lounge/dining with attached galley kitchen. All the rooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard, with some original features giving this accommodation a truly unique character. All rooms have views across Till Valley and the Cheviot Hills. The Clock Tower Cottage can sleep up to 9 people in 3 bunked style bedrooms, (1 having an ensuite shower room). Comfortably furnished and well maintained this unit is ideal for a large family or group of friends. Guests staying in either of these units are welcome to explore the Castle's extensive 5 acres of private grounds. The local area offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf and much more. The walled town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed is only 12 miles away, whilst the cities of Edinburgh and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne are a mere 1 hours drive or a 30 minute train journey.
