Peddars Cottage was built in 1979 and it is designed and furnished in traditional style. It has recently been newly renovated and has a new bathroom and shower, new carpets and soft furnishings, and is newly decorated. There is a caretaker. The cottage is equipped to a high standard for six people. Downstairs the sitting room has an open fire place and the fire can heat the water, the radiators and the sitting room. The furnishings are comfortable, traditional and the many local prints add to the ambience. There is a colour T.V., video and a good supply of books and local information. The kitchen/diner has pine units, table, chairs and benches. There is an automatic washing machine, electric cooker, fridge, microwave and other equipment. Upstairs there are three bedrooms sleeping six people in total, plus a cot. There is a double bedded room with a wash basin, a twin bedded room and a room with full sized bunk beds. The bathroom/wc has a shower, heater and shaver point. There is an immersion heater for the water. All linen is provided and the beds will be made up by our caretaker before guests arrive. Towels are also provided. Electricity is by slot meter, £1 pieces except for the Night Storage Heaters for which a separate charge of £15 per week is made. There is a garage for one car and a patio at the back of the house. Peddars Cottage is an excellent base for an inland and country holiday, for a walking holiday - it is on the Peddars Way, or for touring Norfolk. The coast is about 30 minutes away. Norwich and Cambridge take less than an hour. Sandringham, Kings Lynn, Fakenham and Swaffham are all close by. There is a local bus service but the use of a car is advisable. However, all daily needs can be met in the village and there are lots of good walks around. Children will enjoy paddling in the river! Castle Acre is one of Norfolk's prettiest villages. Its broad village greens are lined with traditional houses, cottages, pubs and shops. The famous village sign has just been renovated in honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee. At one end of the village is the site of the Castle, 'perhaps the finest castle earthworks in England' according to Pevsner, now carefully preserved and with open access it is a good place for a stroll. There are magnificent views from the top across the rolling Norfolk countryside. The River Nar is crossed by the Peddars Way just below the Castle. At the other end of the village the remains of the famous Castle Acre Priory are to be found, now in the care of English Heritage. Facing Stocks Green is the Twelfth Century Bailey Gate and beside this is Peddars Cottage.
