With views over the wildflower garden, you can watch songbirds such as Tree Creepers, Gold Crests, Long Tail Tits, and Nuthatch feeding. Petasfield Cottages offer peace and tranquillity in the heart of the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside.

Situated within working riding stables the cottages offer a unique combination of peace and activity, catering to a wide range of tastes.

The sensory garden offers something for everyone, raised beds full of fragrant flowers and plants, a water feature and somewhere quiet to sit and watch the world go by.

Foxes and pheasants regularly visit the neighbouring fields. You can wander for hours exploring some of the 50 miles of Hertfordshire bridleways and footpaths.

For those who prefer to see the view from a horse’s back there are riding and stable management courses. Children will love the nearby Paradise Wildlife Park.

In such idyllic surroundings it’s hard to believe that you are within easy each of London, Cambridge and St Albans – ideal for those times when you need a little retail therapy. The historic county town of Hertford is just over a mile away with an excellent range of shops, restaurants and pubs.

We will do everything we can to make you feel at home – Your favourite food can be ordered in advance so you can totally relax after your journey. We welcome quiet well-behaved dogs.

We can arrange carriage driving which offers a unique way of seeing the surrounding countryside. There is also a Scope riding centre in nearby Royston.

Stables have been converted into charming, contemporary, cottages newly decorated in calm, neutral colours. Each cottage has one bedroom, with a large comfortable sofa bed in the living area, allowing accommodation for four. The furniture can be arranged to suit your tastes so that you feel completely at home.

The high ceilings with skylights and French windows give a wonderful sense of space and really give the feeling of bringing the outdoors inside.

The kitchen of Broadwater Cottage has been designed for disabled people by Adam Thomas of Access matters. There is an electric sink and hob riser giving wheelchair users complete independence.

Both Broadwater and Acomb Cottages have been designed with the needs of wheelchair users in mind and are fully accessible. Shower rooms have non-slip floors, wheel-in shower and self propelled shower chair if needed. A wheelchair, hearing loop and walking frame are also available. We can arrange for specialist equipment (such as lifting hoists) to be hired locally and will happily do your shopping for you or other small chores. There is plenty of level parking next to the cottages.

Bed linen and towels are provided. There is a laundry room, or if you prefer a 24 hour laundry service.

Weekly rates are from £300.00 - £450.00 depending on the number of guests and time of year.

Short breaks available, (minimum 3 nights) £75.00 per night.
