Location:
The village of Glentrool is set in the fabulous Galloway Forest Park 10 miles north of Newton Stewart. The village was built in the early 1950's for the Forestry workers in that area. The cottage is within easy reach of the Glentrool visitors centre with it's way-marked walks and access to Bruce's Stone at the start of the Merrick Walk to the summit of Southern Scotland's highest peak, Merrick, at almost 850 metres above sea level. There are numerous other walks in the area with the Southern Upland Trail long distance walk passing close by. For the less energetic there is a regular bus service to Newton Stewart and Girvan connecting to the main network.
The nearby pub, The House O'Hill at Bargrennan serves meals of high quality and is the place to meet the locals. Grivan is a small seaside resort with views of and trips to Ailsa Craig, a large rocky island bird sanctuary off shore. Ayr, Dumfries, Wigtown and Stranraer are all within an hours drive for shopping and entertainment.
