Oaks Farm's origins are back in the 17thC when it was part of the Chatsworth Estate owned by the Dukes of Devonshire. It has been extended over the years and now provides a comfortable family home and holiday cottage. It stands at almost 1000ft above sea level overlooking Bretton Clough and has spectacular panoramic views. The old packhorse track meandered past the farm and is now a public footpath leading across moors to the valley below. Whilst enjoying a completely private location off the beaten track, the nearby village of Hathersage provides many local facilities including a number of hostelries, post office, garage, shops, restaurants, swimming pool, railway station and bus service. The holiday accommodation is entered through a stable door on the east wing of the farm into a hallway which leads into a dining kitchen (formerly part of a dairy). The kitchen is fitted with pine units and equipped for 6 people. Stairs from the hall lead to a twin bedded sitting room with stone fireplace, ideal for spending an evening relaxing in front of a log fire. A second bedroom has twin beds. A corridor leads to a shower room with bidet, w.c, twin vanity unit and shower cubicle. Off the corridor is a double bedroom with en suite shower and w.c. The stone mullioned windows provide a southerly view over the hills and valleys. The cottage is comfortably furnished with co-ordinating fabrics and provides a superb location for a relaxing holiday. For the more energetic there are lovely walks from the farm gate. Locally there are opportunities to go fly fishing, climbing or hang gliding.
